Glassmosaics by SICIS® – nine collections from Italy

Glass mosaics are small tiles of through-coloured or refined glass, pre-mounted on mosaic sheets. They absorb light, reflect it and make walls, washbasin areas, showers and pools glow differently from every angle. At Tiamont you will find SICIS® glass mosaics from nine collections, together with adhesive, grout and personal advice from a single source.

Room idea · Glass mosaic behind the vanity

Quatro meets Almenus 2: glass mosaic as a stage for designer bathroom furniture

Behind the vanity, glass mosaic is in its element. It absorbs almost no water, is easy to care for and turns the splash zone into a luminous surface. The light of the mirrors plays in the metallic Colibrì tiles and gives the dark fronts depth.

Quatro by Armadi Art is made to order, with size, colour and features tailored to your bathroom. You can order the Almenus 2 glass mosaic from the Colibrì collection right alongside it.

Bespoke mosaic gradients

Your colours, composed by hand

From the colours of the Colibrì collection, Tiamont creates flowing mosaic gradients on request: for the shower wall, a niche or as the base for a SICIS® Doh glass washbasin. Basin and wall then tell the same colour story.

Material & effect

Glass paste, transparency and finishes

Not every collection is a separate type of glass. Smalto means glass paste; transparency, satin surfaces and finishes change how light behaves. Glass mosaics can therefore feel calm and soft, clear and luminous or shimmering like a play of colour.

Murano Smalto: colour in the glass

Melted minerals form glass paste. Colour nuances within sheets and between batches are part of its character.

Colibrì: metallic reflections

Transparent smalto glass with a metallic backing creates reflections. Colibrì Tide adds a rippled surface.

Waterglass, Glimmer and Firefly

Waterglass is transparent, Glimmer combines transparency with iridescence. Firefly contains mineral inclusions and silvery layers.

Ravenna · Where colour begins

SICIS®: mosaic art with a history

Ravenna is renowned for its early Christian mosaics, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. A mosaic lives through the interplay of its pieces: a single tile sets an accent, many together tell a story. At SICIS®, this idea meets Italian design, and in your home it becomes an invitation to create a personal atmosphere with light, colour and surfaces.

Installation & quantity

Bonding, waterproofing and grouting glass mosaics

A coordinated washbasin area starts with the right material system. As an official Litokol dealer, we match adhesive, waterproofing and grout to the glass mosaic, substrate and intended use.

  1. Prepare and waterproof the substrate

Level, load bearing and primed in a light colour so nothing shows through the glass. In wet areas, waterproof with a liquid membrane such as SafetyGel.

    Litokol SafetyGel®
  2. Bond in white

White adhesive keeps the colours pure. For wet areas and Colibrì we recommend a two component epoxy such as PowerGel Pro Max Ultra Bianco, class R2 T.

  3. Remove the paper

The paper side faces outwards. Once cured, moisten it, peel it off diagonally and remove adhesive residue from the joints.

  4. Grout and clean

Grout with an epoxy grout such as Starlike EVO, Pro or Crystal in a matching colour and clean the surface within the cleaning window.

Frequently asked questions about glass mosaics

The key answers before you buy, from choosing and installing to care.

What are glass mosaics?

Glass mosaics are small glass tiles supplied pre-mounted on mosaic sheets, with Colibrì for example in tiles of 15 × 15 mm. Depending on the collection they are made of through-coloured smalto glass paste, transparent or metallic finished glass. They absorb almost no water, are colourfast and suit walls, showers, pools and, depending on the finish, floors.

How do the nine SICIS® collections differ?

In colour effect, transparency, shine and surface texture. Colibrì shimmers metallically, Murano Smalto shows rich through-coloured hues, Waterglass and Glimmer play with transparency, Firefly with silvery inclusions, Pluma looks satin, Natural calm, Iridium shifting and Fibers Thick sculptural with glass and marble.

Are glass mosaics suitable for showers, floors and pools?

On shower and bathroom walls without restriction. For shower floors and pools, the specific finish and the complete installation system decide: smooth glass becomes slippery when wet, which is why there are slip resistant SICIS® Grip tiles. In pools and permanently wet areas, bonding and grouting are done with two component epoxy.

Which pool tiles create which water colour?
Which adhesive is right for glass mosaic?

A white adhesive, so that no grey substrate shows through the glass. In wet areas, pools and with metallic finished glass mosaics such as Colibrì, a two component epoxy adhesive of class R2 T is recommended, for example Litokol PowerGel Pro Max Ultra Bianco.

Litokol PowerGel® Pro Max Ultra Bianco
Which grout suits glass mosaic?

Epoxy grout has proven itself, as it is colourfast, water resistant and dirt repellent. Litokol Starlike EVO and Starlike Pro come in many colours, Starlike Crystal is translucent and takes on the colour of the glass. We are happy to help you choose the right grout colour.

How do I clean and care for glass mosaic?

With a soft cloth and a mild glass cleaner, then wipe with clear water and gently dry. Avoid rough sponges, abrasives and strongly acidic or alkaline cleaners, as they can attack the surface and the backing. Squeegeeing the shower after use prevents limescale stains.

How much glass mosaic do I need?

Measure the area to be covered and add around 10 percent for cutting and reserve, closer to 15 percent for niches and curves. A mosaic sheet often measures about 29.5 × 29.5 cm. Order the full quantity at once if possible, so that it comes from one batch.

Which glass mosaics match SICIS® Doh glass washbasins?

The Colibrì collection offers the matching colour world for Doh. Single colour glass mosaics or individually matched mosaic gradients connect basin, vanity top and wall design.

Can I install glass mosaic behind the vanity or in the kitchen?

Very well indeed. Glass absorbs almost no water, withstands temperature changes and is easy to clean. Behind designer bathroom furniture such as Quatro, the splash zone becomes a focal point; in the kitchen, glass mosaic protects the wall behind sink and hob.

Why do colours vary between batches?

Smalto glass is coloured with melted minerals. Slight nuances within sheets and between production batches are part of its character. When installing, mix sheets from several boxes and order the full quantity at once.
